The Disability Proud Festival is a community celebration that recognizes disability as a natural and valuable part of human diversity. The festival brings together people with disabilities, families, advocates, organizations, and community members to celebrate inclusion, accessibility, and the accomplishments of the disability community.
Inspired by the broader Disability Pride movement—which honors the history, culture, and civil rights of people with disabilities—the festival creates a welcoming space where everyone can learn, connect, and celebrate together. Disability Pride events grew in part from the legacy of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), a landmark civil rights law passed in 1990 that protects equal access and opportunities for people with disabilities.
At the festival, attendees can experience a variety of activities that highlight the talents, voices, and resources within the disability community. These include live entertainment, accessible recreation, community resource booths, family-friendly activities, and opportunities to connect with disability-led businesses and organizations.
More than just an event, the festival is an opportunity to promote understanding, celebrate identity, and build a stronger, more inclusive community where people of all abilities can participate fully.
