Ready, Set, Cook!

Cooking class for people with disabilities, summer sessions.

Ready, Set, Cook! is a hands-on cooking course designed to help people with disabilities learn how to cook safely, build confidence in the kitchen, and develop independent living skills.

This is a 6-week, in-person cooking program where you will actively prepare food, learn how to use kitchen tools safely, and practice real-life cooking skills in a supportive, supervised environment.

Who Can Join

You may be eligible if you:

  • Are 16 years or age or older
  • Have an intellectual or developmental disability
  • Are enrolled in CCS, CLTS, IRIS or Family Care
  • Private pay is also accepted if you meet disability criteria but are not enrolled in one of these programs.
  • Caregivers, parents, and guardians are welcome to attend at no extra cost to support learning and practice at home.

What You’ll Learn

This is a hands-on class– you will be cooking, not just watching!

  • Kitchen safety and emergency response
  • Safe knife use and kitchen tools
  • Food sanitation and cleanliness
  • Cooking temperatures and food safety
  • Meal planning and preparation
  • Cooking full meals independently

Workshop Costs 

Ready, Set, Cook can be paid for with IRIS/Family Care/CLTS funds or private funds. The workshop costs $450 per 6-week course. Food, tools, and materials are covered as part of this cost. 

You will not see an option to submit payment due to the variety of methods people may choose to pay for the course. You will receive an email after registration that will include information about payment to finalize your registration.

NEW Scholarship Opportunity!

Scholarship Eligibility Requirements:

• Must have an intellectual or developmental disability

• Must not be enrolled in long-term care or family care programs/waivers

• Must not have the means to pay the $450 course fee out of pocket

• Must be able to arrange transportation to and from classes

⚠️ Scholarships are limited and available on a first come, first served basis. Applications must be submitted by June 6, 2026.
